SPLIT TOURING – TAURAS – GROSSVENEDIGER 3674 m IN COLLABORATION WITH PALO SANTO.

SplitTouring / SkiTouring with Palo Santo.

We went to Slovenia for the “7 lakes tour”, 4 avalanche flipped us, however, to Austria.
With all the things, also camping, we set out before dawn. After a night in a snow cave and a quick breakfast …skins.
With 1400m to 2121m Johannis, around half of the approach. Mainly  uncomfortable traverses relatively steep slopes. But this is not the end of the day. The aim of the afternoon / evening is a shelter at 2961m Defreggerhouse. Finally in fine weather after defeating 22km distance and height difference of more than 1500m, 7h the seals … happy 🙂

After a brief recovery, the approach to the saddle 3200m, acclimatization and demonstratively. We say that the summit a little too late.

Foggy morning and windy. After all we going up. At the entrance in the open area of the glacier, we turn back. Wind increases. Visibility drops. Snowfall and felt cold to help make a decision. We descend. After several hours another attempt. Weather, however, does not forgive. We arrive at a similar place. Squalls and lack of visibility do not allow for action in this area. Time to “quarters” and go down. It is not comfortable to because of bad weather already set, that does not change, add lack of contrast. Variable snow conditions of a truly soft down by the Scroll / compacted snow blown away the ice. We get, however, efficiently and safely down. I thank this place Karolina, Jasiek and Piotrek.
